
Goals of Program
This program strives to equip Local 99 workers with the necessary core competencies to succeed in the workplaces where Local 99 represents the workers.
Local 99 offers regularly scheduled in-person classes and supports working individuals’ schedules with plenty of online, learn-at-your-own-pace classes.
The program prepares workers to excel on any job. All courses are free to attend for workers, although the purchase of some tools/personalized equipment may be required. The program is able to be completed in 12 months.
Rules for Participants
- Attendees will be expected to maintain a satisfactory performance in all classes in order to advance in the training program. Attendees with unsatisfactory work will be subject to probation or dismissal from the program.
- Attendees agree to provide at their expense all required course material not provided by the training program i.e.; tools, harness etc.
- Appropriate attire is required in class.
- No flip flops, heels, or other types on unsafe footwear. Your clothing should be clean and in good repair. Clothing without logos is preferable but logos that are small and tasteful are acceptable. Long pants are preferred including jeans, but shorts are okay for training outdoors in the summer months.
- No smoking or vaping during training sessions.

Complete Your Hours
500 documented hours of work within two consecutive years under a Local 99-administered contract.

Complete Trainings
Workers must complete each required course within a rolling 12 month period. Required trainings are a mixture of in-person and online classes, totaling approximately 51 hours of education.

Submit Completion Checklist
To complete the Local 99 Education Program and move to the A-List, you must submit your Completion Checklist, Hours Tracker, and all required supporting materials to the Local 99 Front Office Manager, Karen Roylance. This can be done via email at front.office@ialocal99.org or in person during office hours.

Required online trainings come from trusted industry organization and professionals that are all accessible to IATSE workers for free: the IATSE Training Trust Fund Safety First! Online Courses ©, AVIXA, and LinkedIn Learning.

- Fall Protection and Prevention, 45 min.
- Elevated Work Platforms and Aerial Lifts, 35 min.
- Hand and Portable Power Tools, 45 min.
- Rigging Safety, 1 hr.
- A1, General Safety/Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), 1 hr.
- A2, Environmental Safety, 3 hrs.
- HP2, Harassment Prevention Training, 2 hrs.
LinkedIn Learning
- Audio cable basics, 3 min.
- Powerpoint 2019, 2 hrs.
- Customer Service Foundations, 1.5 hrs.
AVIXA
- Networking Basic Terms, 9 min.
- Audio Troubleshooting: The Basics of Content, Space, and Technology, 15 min.

In Person Classes
- OSHA 10, 10 hrs.
- Local 99 Union Bootcamp, 4 hrs.
- COMET (Continue Organizing! Membership Education Training), 4 hrs.
- Aerial Lift Platform or Fork Lift certification, 3 hrs.
- Customer Service Training, 1 hr.
- Intro Down Rigging, Floor Marking, and Carpet, 8 hrs.
- Sound, Lights, and Rooms, 4 hrs.
In Person Classes During COVID-19
During COVID-19, all efforts will be made to offer In-Person Classes online. If they cannot be offered online, strict safety protocols will be adhered to so as to allow classes in person. Currently, the following classes are already available online:

Results of Program

Starting Out
Submit an application to the IATSE Local 99 Hiring Hall and complete Bootcamp. You will then have 90 days to accept your first work call. Once you do that, you will be eligible to begin the Local 99 Education Program.
All workers new to the Local 99 Hiring Hall start with their names on the “C-List.”

Complete Trainings

Submit Completion Checklist
To complete the Local 99 Education Program and move to the A-List, you must submit your Completion Checklist, Hours Tracker and all required supporting materials.
You will receive confirmation of completion and acceptance of your materials within 30 days, and your name will then be added to the Hiring Hall “A List.”

How to Register for Online Classes
So you’ve signed up for the Hiring Hall, completed Bootcamp, and have worked your first call. Now you can start taking the other classes! To take all the online classes and in person classes you must:
- Register for “Free Trainings for Motion Picture and Television Workers Covered by the IATSE Area Standards Agreement”
